A Resounding Success

From August 10-14, 2026, the Wascana Country Club hosted the Canadian Junior Boys Championships. It was an incredible showcase of talent, bringing together 156 young athletes from across the country. The showdown for the championship title on Friday afternoon saw over 100 spectators following the leading group through the final holes. An excellent way to wrap up a successful week!

Wascana Course Record Tied

The 2026 Canadian Junior Boys Championship delivered two standout rounds at Wascana Country Club on August 13, as Michael Vivone of Ottawa, ON, and Tiger Xie of Surrey, BC, each fired a 65 to tie the course record set by Ryan McNall on August 4, 2023.

Vivone and Xie now join McNall as co-holders of the course record, adding another memorable moment to an exciting week of championship golf at Wascana!

Wascana's Austin Nesbitt Shines

Wascana Junior Member, Austin Nesbitt, fresh off becoming the youngest male golfer to win the Saskatchewan Amateur Men’s Championship, shone at the Canadian Junior Boys Championships. 

Speaking to Taylor Shire at the Regina Leader-Post before the tournament started Austin had this to say, “It’s pretty special having it here. It’s not often that there’s many tournaments, and especially big ones like this.” 

“I think I’ve played this course more than anyone here,” he said. “I know every little detail about it and I think I can use that to my advantage and have an exciting, fun week.”

Austin had a great week shooting rounds of 73-71-72-74-290, to finish tied for 30th in an elite 156-player field. Achieving a top-30 finish on a national stage at just 15 years old is an incredible feat. Congratulations Austin!

Xie Comes From Behind to Capture the Championship

Tiger Xie rallied from behind to secure the victory in both divisions at the 2026 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, presented by BDO, at Wascana Country Club in Regina, Sask. on Friday, August 14.

Xie of Surrey, B.C. entered the final round two shots back of the leader Michael Vivone of Ottawa, Ont. Vivone held the lead throughout the first 11 holes, it was not until hole no. 12 when Xie birdied to sit in a tie for first. Xie eventually took the lead on hole no. 15 and extended it to a two-shot lead and the win with a birdie on hole no. 18.

“It means a lot, it’s nice to see my name up there with some very good players, it feels like my hard work finally paid off this time,” said Xie on what it means to become a national champion.

“I didn’t really try and do anything different, I was mostly just trying to make smart choices approaching the green,” added Xie. “It was kind of a grind today, I didn’t have my best stuff, but I am glad I was able to close it out.

“On hole ten I pushed it and hit the tree right in front of the tee box and it landed on the front of the tee box like ten yards up,” he added. “I really should have stayed focused and not let myself get away and spiral, I guess.

“I think the best part of my game was off the tee today, I really only had two bad shots but everything else was pretty solid.”

Xie closed out the final round with a 2-under 70 finishing the tournament at 16-under. Xie earned his first national championship win with rounds of 71-66-65-70-272, carding two eagles and 20 birdies throughout the week. Vivone shot a 2-over 74 to finish at 14-under with rounds of 68-67-65-74-274.

“There was a lot of thoughts, I was kind of nervous obviously, but I was also just trying to stay present,” said Xie on what was going through his head standing over the final putt on hole no. 18.

With Xie’s win he becomes the 13th player to win both the Junior Boys and Juvenile Boys division in the same year. The Juvenile Boys division is for players 16 and under and has run concurrently since 1970 with the Junior Boys Championship. The last player to win both divisions in the same year was 2026 Canadian Men’s Amateur Champion Dawson Lew of Toronto, Ont. who did it in 2025.

“That’s crazy, I never really expected this coming into this week, but it feels really nice having my name there,” said Xie.

Along with Xie’s Junior Boys championship title, he has also received an exemption into the 2027 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship if eligible, and the 122nd Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship. Xie will also be exempt to try and defend his title at the 2027 Canadian Junior Boys Championship.

And to our membership, thank you for your support as we welcomed some of the best young golfers in the country and had the opportunity to showcase our Club on a national stage. It was a special week and a Championship our entire membership can be proud to have hosted!
